Well it's been almost 2 months since I last posted. I'm horrible at this lol.
Lots of changes have come to the Murphy home since Christmas. We moved into our new house the second weekend in January. We've painted and cleaned and done some of the updating we want to do and the house looks great. We still need to remodel the bathrooms and kitchen but as we're committed to becoming debt free, it's going to be a slow process. But everything is functional and usable and there's no real reason to rush into finishing things up - except that I'm impatient and want things done now! But I know that's not a good enough reason.
On February 1, I transferred to a full time position at work. I was working in the hospice houses. I was PRN (well they call it pool) and my hours varied. I also worked night shift. I really liked the job, but the unpredictable schedule and working nights was getting old, so I had been trying to go full time on days for a couple of months. On Jan 21, I got a call for a position I applied for a few months back. They brought me in for an interview and 5 hours later called to offer me the job.
I now work for Hope Select Care. It's an "adult day health center" for clients age 55 and older. They have to meet certain criteria and the goal is to keep these patients out of nursing homes for as long as possible. The clients come in and get medical care and what not. It's like an adult daycare center - but there's way more stuff. I just don't feel like getting into it, but it's a pretty cool program. Google PACE program if you really want more info. Anyway - my job is an Activity Assistant/CNA. I do some showers, help with meals. and basically hang out with the elderly all day. We do lots of activities with them and I get to spend time just chatting with the clients. I really enjoy it. There are a couple of older ladies there that I have just loved getting to know. Although there are some really stressful things about the job and I spend some days praying for patience, I really love my new job. The only down side - it's mon - fri, 8a-5p. While I don't work weekends anymore, I do spend around 50hrs (if you count drive time) out of the house every week. This leads to the next change:
Corbin started daycare/preschool. He loves it! He's learned a ton - the second day he came home and said "I live on dogwood rd!" James and I were shocked - we had no idea he knew his street, but they taught him at school. He comes home everyday with something new to tell us. He sings cute little songs ("little quail, little quail, feathered head, feathered tail", "pigs roll in the mud all day, oink oink, oink oink. That is what they like to say, oink oink oink oink, pudgy little nose, curly little tail") as well as the classics - The ABCs, Twinkle, Twinkle, The Muffin Man. He's having a blast - making friends and just really enjoying "school" Considering, I've been home mostly or he's been with Meemaw Murphy or Aunt Jessie if I was working, the transition has been quite smooth.
In other news:
Corbin is now fully potty trained. He sleeps in underwear and everything. We do have occasional bedtime accidents, but nothing too bad. And - even better - Corbin now poops in the potty! He's doing so well. He still takes miralax everyday, but he's pooping and it's on the potty, so we're making progress. He has his next 3 month follow up with the GI on March 10th. We talked at his last visit about getting him to poop in the potty and there was some concern that if we took away his pull up at nap (he was waiting until nap to go and then going as soon as the pullup was on) that his anal retentiveness would get worse. After much talk with James, we decided to take them away anyway and see how it went. The very first day, he pooped in the potty. He had a slight regression as far as holding his stool goes, but after an enema and an increased dose of miralax for a week, he was fine. No problems since then. We are thrilled! We will be talking on the 10th about taking him off the laxative. I'm not sure the GI will go for it yet, but I would be thrilled if he would. He's been on it for over a year and I really don't like that. But it's helped a ton, so we do it.
James tested for his cabinet and mill work license in December. He passed the test, we've applied to become incorporated, and now we're waiting on the approval of his license. We're working on getting our own business in order. It's a bit nerve wracking, but good as well. Hoping it works out and things take off for him.
I'm toying with going back to school in the fall. It's just a thought right now, but I'm getting everything taken care of, so if I decide to go for it, I can. We'll see how it goes.
That's pretty much it for the Murphy family. My goal is to update once a week at least from gere on out. No promises. I've already said I'm a horrible blogger and now that I'm working full time, time is precious lol. But I'll try :)
